Change Your Mindset and Change Your Life!

Mindset is so important if you’re trying to create changes in your life. It cannot be stated enough!

We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.

Albert Einstein

You have to do something different if you want it to be different – you can be inspired by what is happening around you, but you have to make the change yourself, and one thing is for sure that won’t happen unless you believe it is possible. Change your mindset – change your life!

Believe

Believe. I know it sounds like a cat poster, but it’s true.”

Vitruvius – The Lego Movie

The one thing that will determine your success or failure is your mindset. It isn’t your skill, or your knowledge, or how hard you graft. Yes, these things matter, yes, you will need a little or a lot of all of those things, but more than anything you need to believe it is possible for you. All the time, skill, knowledge and hard work in the world won’t get you anywhere if you don’t believe you can do it.

Don’t give up!

Having faith is the first step. Even if only a little bit. You don’t need to be all in if you’re right at the beginning of this journey – just be willing to open your mind to the idea that this is possible for you. That there might be just the slightest inkling of a suspicion of a possibility that you could have everything your heart desires. And build up from there. Get that ball of possibility rolling until it is so indisputably huge that it will steamroll anything in its path. That’s where the magic truly happens.

Can you develop a growth mindset?

Having a growth mindset is the secret sauce to success in any venture. The great news is that you can develop a growth mindset, so if you currently feel like:

“That’s all very well and good, but I could never do what x,y,z person is doing with their life”.

You can. You TOTALLY can.

There was a time when it was believed that the brain stopped developing and producing new good stuff at around adulthood, and that pretty much, if you hadn’t formed positive neural pathways by that point, well good luck to you.

More recently, however, scientific discoveries have shown that this simply isn’t true. The brain has more plasticity than we ever thought possible. New neural pathways are being formed constantly. The more you build on a certain thought pattern, the stronger these pathways become.

Mindset for change

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start thinking about what could go right!

If you are always focused on the negative, always concerning yourself with all the ways this isn’t going to happen for you, then, in all honesty, you’re probably going to want to give up at the first sign that things aren’t going swimmingly. And they won’t.

Anything worth having tends to be a little bit trickier to attain, and whatever it is you are striving towards, you will, with the best will in the world, eventually come against a wall of some kind. Be that people telling you it can’t be done, or months of hard work getting you nowhere (seemingly), or your own niggling self-doubt (because even the most steadfastly positive among us have bad days…)

You are going to have days when you want to throw in the towel, it is inevitable. It’s how you respond to these days that counts, and if you don’t start with a growth mindset and the knowledge that every setback or even failure is an opportunity to learn something, then you will give up at the first hurdle.

Self-belief is EVERYTHING. Seriously, it is SO important. You need to have so much confidence in your own ability to create the life you want that nothing can touch it, that nobody can get you down with a well-meant cautionary tale. If you can cultivate that, you will be unstoppable.

5 Mindset habits for change!

1) Get behind something you can believe in

Know your why, always. Why is it that you want the changes you want? This isn’t the first time I have asked this question and it won’t be the last, because it is sooo crucial. If you know your ‘why’ everything else becomes so much easier.

2) Affirmations

Get some power behind your newly budding faith in yourself. If you’ve never used affirmations then don’t panic, you’ve stuck with me thus far, hear me out… because affirmations are like your own personal pep talk. But better than that they actually have the power to CHANGE your mindset. For real.

3) Visualisation

Visualisation and affirmation go together like cheese and pickle, or hot chocolate and marshmallows, salt and vinegar, whatever – just know they go good.

Creating a strong mental picture of where you want to be, reinforces the message in your brain, helping you to develop that all-important growth mindset. Believe it, speak it, see it.

If you open yourself up to the possibility that this could work, then you have a whole wonderful world of potential at your fingertips. If not, who knows… it’s got to be worth a try though, right?

4) Break out of your comfort zone

“Most people die at age 25 and aren’t buried until they are 75”

Benjamin Franklin

Pretty powerful quote there – even more so given that Benjamin Franklin lived in the 1700’s. People have been stuck in their comfort zones for centuries! This is not a new problem. As a species, we like comfort. We like the familiar and the easy. And you know what? There is NOTHING wrong with that. And I truly believe that. I’m not always one for “push harder, make a change, keep fighting…” IF you are truly happy.

I believe in slow and serene, and light and beautiful. Life should be enjoyed, not torn through blindly searching for something to hold your attention for more than a few fleeting moments.

But if you are not in the happy place that you dream of being, then yes, you need to push yourself. You need to get out of your comfort zone. You need to do something different if you want things to be different.

Start small

Do one little thing every day which moves you towards your goal. It could be watching an inspiring YouTube video that gets you thinking about change. Or maybe signing up for a course or reading a chapter of a book that pertains to that career change you want to make. It might be putting your spare change in a piggy bank to begin your savings for your dream home or adventure, or making a note of what you have spent/saved that day.

Although seemingly insignificant, these small daily details keep your goal at the forefront of your mind and keep you moving towards a brighter future.

5) Live from a place of inspiration

What inspires you?

It is far easier to maintain a positive mindset when you are fired up and enthusiastic, which tends to happen naturally when you are inspired. Surround yourself with inspiration, whether that means creating a vision board of powerful images or hanging out more with the people who fill you with a zest for life – whatever it is that gives you all the feels! Hold onto it and infuse all of your days with that which inspires you.
